FAST Member Interview- Collette of Lazy Perry Ranch
If you’re a member of FAST and would like to be featured in the weekly interview, visit this thread in the yahoo group to get the questions, then send your answers (and a picture or two if you’d like) to me at merigreenleaf[at]yahoo.com (or a convo to merigreenleaf). These will be posted in the order I receive them.

What is your name?
Collette Perry
What is your Etsy shop? Does your shop name have a meaning?
Epicurus.etsy.com. It is my e-mail. I meant for my shop to be called Lazy Perry Ranch. That’s OK. I have been known as Epicurus for about 15 years now so it works:)
Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else? Do you have a website or blog?
I have a Blog http://lazyperryranchblog.blogspot.com and my yarn is sold in several shops via the internet.
How long have you been making art/crafting? What was the first thing you remember making?
I have always crafted. I suppose the first thing I remember making would be mud pie:) The first real project I remember making was a shawl I crocheted for myself in the 5th grade.
Where is the craziest or most interesting place you’ve ever crocheted, knitted, felted, spun yarn, etc?
I knit/crochet/spin everywhere I go so you name it! Maybe spinning in the food court of the local mall. We get some odd looks there!
What is your favorite place to work?
Home. I love being home and I prefer to work there.

What inspires you? Where does your inspiration come from?
I know it sounds cliche, but nature IS my true inspiration. I really am a nature junkie. I revere nature almost religiously. All I have to do is walk outside in this beautiful and rich desert I live in and the ideas flow in.
Is there any other kind of art (fiber-related or not) that you’d like to learn?
Someday I will be a weaver.
Tell us a bit about yourself- where do you live, what’s your job, do you have a spouse/children/pets, any other hobbies, that kind of thing?
I live in the high desert of Southern California. I am 15 minutes away from a mountain resort but still in the desert. It is a little cooler at 4000 ft and the flora is more abundant up here.
I have been happily married for 21 years now. I have three sons ages 8, 16, and 18. I have homeschooled all three. The oldest two are now graduated and in various stages of college and life but everyone still lives at home. I am very involved with the homeschool community and volunteer in our yearly EXPO http://californiahomeschool.net/events/expo/familyexpo.htm
I love to spend time in the mountains off roading with my family and capturing nature on camera and also camping.
As for animals we have 1 alpaca, 1 ewe, lay hens, 2 angora rabbits, 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 tarantula, and 4 tiny frogs. I love having animals but am not an excess person. Just what I need, thank you.
Tell us one quirky thing about you (or one thing no one knows about you).
I was a punk rocker before I had kids. Most people get a kick out of this because I look fairly conservative these days.
Do you have any advice for other fiber artists? Have any craft room, storage, or other tips?
Be true to yourself. If you are not finding creativity, take a break and try something different. It will come. I recommend against looking around at others shops for inspiration. Just go with your gut and see what happens.
