If you’re a member of FAST and would like to be featured in the weekly interview, visit this thread in the yahoo group to get the questions, then send your answers (and a picture or two if you’d like) to me at merigreenleaf[at]yahoo.com (or a convo to merigreenleaf). These will be posted in the order I receive them.

What is your name?
Simone Van Iderstine
What is your Etsy shop? Does your shop name have a meaning?
My Etsy shop is Sand & Sky Creations. I live really close to and spend a lot of time at the beach so I thought the name would suit perfectly.
Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else? Do you have a website or blog?
I sell on my own website, http://sandandskycreations.com and I blog at http://sandandskycreations.blogspot.com
How long have you been making art/crafting? What was the first thing you remember making?
I grew up in a really crafty family. My mum and grandmother were always painting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting and my dad took up woodworking when I was very young. The first thing crafty that I remember making is a painted necklace holder (for my mom) out of cool shaped wood scraps from my dad’s wood shop.
What kind of fiber arts do you do? If different from the previous question, what was the first fiber art thing you made?
I like to knit, crochet, and spin. My very first fiber art creation was a little afghan for my cat to sleep on
What’s your favorite thing to make?
My favorite thing to make are hats and socks….I keep my husband well supplied.

What do you think is the strangest or most unusual fiber arts item you have made or been asked to make?
I made a set of crocheted boobs for a friend’s stag party.
Where is the craziest or most interesting place you’ve ever crocheted, knitted, felted, spun yarn, etc?
I was making a really fun top to wear at the Evolve Festival and didn’t have quite enough time to finish it so I finished at the festival while the first band was warming up. I had a lot of people check it out and ask questions on how to learn crocheting. It was a really fun way to meet new people.
9.)What is your favorite place to work?
Outside, underneath our big tree.
What inspires you? Where does your inspiration come from?
Nature, fairy tales, music, novels….I find inspiration in many things.
What is your favorite color? Do you tend to work with that color, or do you find yourself working with other colors?
I love blues of all shades and more earthy tones but I love working with other colors just to shake things up a bit.
Do you prefer a specific type of fiber?
I prefer to work with natural fibers. I love the feel of a good wool, cotton, or alpaca. I’ve started doing more work with bamboo and linen. They both feel so luxurious to work with and wear.
Is there any other kind of art (fiber-related or not) that you’d like to learn?
I would really like to learn how to carve and weave baskets. I read some books on both from the library so now I just have give them both a good shot.
