FAST Member Interview- Patti of Peacox Creations

If you’re a member of FAST and would like to be featured in the weekly interview, visit this thread in the yahoo group to get the questions, then send your answers (and a picture or two if you’d like) to me at merigreenleaf[at]yahoo.com (or a convo to merigreenleaf). These will be posted in the order I receive them.

What is your name?
Patti Cox-Charles

What is your Etsy shop? Does your shop name have a meaning?
peacoxcreations gets its name from my name before I was remarried. My initial with my last name was “P. Cox”, so I adopted a peacock for my logo!

Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else? Do you have a website or blog?
I do take private orders from friends, family and folks in our area. I go to one or two shows a year as well. My blog is: http://patti-peacox.blogspot.com

How long have you been making art/crafting? What was the first thing you remember making?
I’ve been crafting for almost 60 years. My first project was rolling paper beads of magazine paper for necklaces.

What kind of fiber arts do you do? If different from the previous question, what was the first fiber art thing you made?
My first fiber craft was a simple crochet project… probably a pot holder. It’s so long ago I can’t remember!

What’s your favorite thing to make?
I still love all my projects, but I would have to opt for pine needle baskets as my very favorite!

(Click the below link to read the rest of the interview)

What do you think is the strangest or most unusual fiber arts item you have made or been asked to make?
The pine needle baskets are quite unusual. There are only about a dozen of us on ETSY who sell them. I encourage you to check them out!

Where is the craziest or most interesting place you’ve ever crocheted, knitted, felted, spun yarn, etc?
Frequent travelling has allowed me to craft in more than 20 states and in cars, RVs, trains and planes. If you count soaking raffia in the bathroom sink, I have crafted in every room of the house!

What is your favorite place to work?
Right now my favorite place to craft is in our eclectically furnished den which we lovingly call “Casablanca meets Bangkok”.

What inspires you? Where does your inspiration come from?
Putting any kind of fiber in my hands inspires me. I love to watch projects develop and love to design them as I go along as well.

What is your favorite color? Do you tend to work with that color, or do you find yourself working with other colors?
Because I love all colors, I craft in all colors!

Do you prefer a specific type of fiber?
My favorite fiber is raffia.

Is there any other kind of art (fiber-related or not) that you’d like to learn?
If I ever adopt another craft dh will kill me! But you never know…..

Tell us a bit about yourself- where do you live, what’s your job, do you have a spouse/children/pets, any other hobbies, that kind of thing.
My husband and I live in lovely Kohler, Wisconsin. He has two grown sons and I have two grown daughters and we really enjoy being with them. I love to play mah jongg with a group of dear friends and my husband loves golf.

Tell us one quirky thing about you (or one thing no one knows about you).
I have been married three times, so I’m one of the few people who can check “married”, “divorced” and “widowed” on the same form!

Do you have any advice for other fiber artists? Have any craft room, storage, or other tips?
Please enjoy what you do. Life is too short to do otherwise!
