My name is Amy and my business name is oblinaknit

What is your Etsy shop? Does your shop name have a meaning?
oblinaknit- not really – I like to knit (among other things) and I used to watch a cartoon and a character was named ‘oblina’ which is a name I like and have always thought was quirky and fun – so I combined the two since I like to have an eclectic mix of goodies in my shop.

Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else?
on dawanda, as well as in a few shops (wholesale and consignment)

Do you have a website or blog?
yes, but I am not as good as I would like to be with updates – http://oblinaknit.blogspot.com/

How long have you been making art/crafting?
ever since I was a child

What was the first thing you remember making?
well my friend and I used to make tops for our barbie dolls from her mother’s sewing scraps – and I always liked to make stuff with friends when we weer at each others houses

What kind of fiber arts do you do?
I knit accessories – hats and scarves, sometimes a shrug or two; and sometimes do custom dog sweaters (my cat Ken likes to model them for me – see pic in shop) I also knit with wire and make bracelets and chokers – its great to use unexpected materials and really catches people’s attention when they see it; I also make other jewelry

What’s your favorite thing to make?
I like to sew as well and enjoy putting together fabrics to make

EtsyFAST member blogged!

January 13th, 2009 by jenn

il_430xn26120920

The wonderful Simone has interviewed June of on her Sand and Sky Creations blog.

Check out the interview here.

An excerpt of June’s interview:

I grew up in a small town in British Columbia on your typical small hobby farm….. cattle, horses, pigs and German Shepherd Dogs….. but eventually moved to Ontario, where I spent 20 plus years. Three years ago we moved to Prince Edward Island (which we absolutely love!). The whole gang came with us and we are all adjusting to a much quieter life.

I now have lots more time(minus everyday farm surprises and chores, of course) to get involved in the fiber arts i love so much. For a little more than 10+ years I have been a jack of all trades.

Go and read the rest!

FAST Member Interview- Marie of Knitted Gems

October 3rd, 2008 by merigreenleaf

If you’re a member of FAST and would like to be featured in the weekly interview, visit this thread in the yahoo group to get the questions, then send your answers (and a picture or two if you’d like) to me at merigreenleaf[at]yahoo.com (or a convo to merigreenleaf). These will be posted in the order I receive them.

What is your name?
Marie Haigh

What is your Etsy shop? Does your shop name have a meaning?
KnittedGems. It has no meaning aside from the obvious. When I resigned from Elsevier, my co-workers voted on several names I had been deciding between. Knitted Gems won the vote.

Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else? Do you have a website or blog?
Yes, I sell my knitting patterns on Ravelry.com, TheKnittingVault.com, SandraSingh.com, and CraftedOnline.com. I also have a website/blog at http://KnittedGems.com

How long have you been making art/crafting? What was the first thing you remember making?
Unlike most crafters, I did not start making things with my hands until I became engaged to my husband at the age of 22. During my younger years, I was more interested in playing sports and hanging out with my friends. The first thing I remember making was a summer dress with my mother-in-law. I didn’t start designing knitting patterns until 5 years ago. I am 32 now (or I will be in a few days).

What kind of fiber arts do you do? If different from the previous question, what was the first fiber art thing you made?
I knit, spin, sew, and quilt – in that order.

What’s your favorite thing to make?
I don’t have one particular item that I love to make over and over again. Yet, I do have a theme; I love to make items for the home, such as pillows, afghans, quilts, etc.

These will be posted in the order I receive them.

What is your name?
Collette Perry

What is your Etsy shop? Does your shop name have a meaning?
Epicurus.etsy.com. It is my e-mail. I meant for my shop to be called Lazy Perry Ranch. That’s OK. I have been known as Epicurus for about 15 years now so it works:)

Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else? Do you have a website or blog?
I have a Blog http://lazyperryranchblog.blogspot.com and my yarn is sold in several shops via the internet.

How long have you been making art/crafting? What was the first thing you remember making?
I have always crafted. I suppose the first thing I remember making would be mud pie:) The first real project I remember making was a shawl I crocheted for myself in the 5th grade.

Where is the craziest or most interesting place you’ve ever crocheted, knitted, felted, spun yarn, etc?
I knit/crochet/spin everywhere I go so you name it! Maybe spinning in the food court of the local mall. We get some odd looks there!

What is your favorite place to work?
Home. I love being home and I prefer to work there.

FAST Member Interview- Julie of jschubertdesigns

September 14th, 2008 by merigreenleaf

If you’re a member of FAST and would like to be featured in the weekly interview, visit this thread in the yahoo group to get the questions, then send your answers (and a picture or two if you’d like) to me at merigreenleaf[at]yahoo.com (or a convo to merigreenleaf). These will be posted in the order I receive them.

1.) What is your name?
Julie Schubert

2.) What is your Etsy shop?
http://www.jschubertdesigns.etsy.com

3.) Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else?
I’ve taken commissions from people that have seen my weavings, but don’t have them for sale anywhere else. Will have my handspun in a local shop soon……she’ll buy ANY local handspun yarn! Cool…

4.) How long have you been making art/crafting?
I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember. But my love for weaving started in a junior high art class. The teacher introduced us to card weaving…..and I was hooked! I’d never really thought about how cloth was fabricated before….but when I did, I wanted to make all of my cloth from scratch! From raising the animals, to spinning and weaving, then finally creating the garment. Ahem…..still haven’t done it! BUT am learning to spin right now…..so maybe there’s hope yet!

5.) What kind of fiber arts do you do?
I weave and sew and do needlework.

6.) What’s your favorite thing to make?
My favorite thing to make is wearable art……using the body as a canvas! But most often I’m held at bay by the ‘bread and butter’ weavings……..scarves and shawls.

FAST Member Interview- Elizabeth of Elizabeth’s Lace

August 29th, 2008 by merigreenleaf

If you’re a member of FAST and would like to be featured in the weekly interview, visit this thread in the yahoo group to get the questions, then send your answers (and a picture or two if you’d like) to me at merigreenleaf[at]yahoo.com (or a convo to merigreenleaf). These will be posted in the order I receive them.

What is your name?
Elizabeth Zipay

What is your Etsy shop? Does your shop name have a meaning?
ElizabethsLace is the name; it’s my first name (although outside of my business I usually go by Beth) and I guess I thought it was very elegant and perfect for a Victorian form of lacemaking.

Besides your Etsy shop, do you sell anywhere else? Do you have a website or blog?
I have been doing art/craft shows for 15 years. I do have a website-
home.comcast.net/~elizabeths-lace

How long have you been making art/crafting? What was the first thing you remember making?
Since I was little, I remember doing cross stitch and crocheting from the time I was about six. I made a cross stitch of a bear sitting in a green pepper house. I only remember that because my mother still has it somewhere and I’ve seen it recently.

What kind of fiber arts do you do? If different from the previous question, what was the first fiber art thing you made?
I crochet and tat, but tatting is the thing I do most regularly. I made a crocheted afghan in gold and black.

What’s your favorite thing to make?
Tatted beaded necklaces.

FAST Member Interview- Anne of ennadoolf

August 19th, 2008 by merigreenleaf

If you’re a member of FAST and would like to be featured in the weekly interview, visit this thread in the yahoo group to get the questions, then send your answers (and a picture or two if you’d like) to me at merigreenleaf[at]yahoo.com (or a convo to merigreenleaf). These will be posted in the order I receive them.

My name is Anne, and my Etsy shop is http://ennadoolf.etsy.com. I live in Ontario Canada. I’m also involved with Girl Guides (aka Girl Scouts in the U.S.) and do the bookkeeping for two units as well as volunteer for the website e-guiding.com.

I learned to knit in Brownies. I could never remember how to cast on though, so I’d always have to ask my mom to do that whenever I started a new project. I don’t remember what those projects were – I imagine they were scarves, or perhaps dishcloths.

When my girls were young, the only pattern I would knit up was slippers. When my girls told me they didn’t like that style anymore, I stopped knitting. Years later, Harry Potter came along! That Christmas, I think I knitted 6 or so scarves in burgundy and gold. Funny thing was, when my girls saw me knitting, they didn’t know I could! It had been so long since the slippers days, that they didn’t remember that at all.

Since those Harry Potter scarves, I’ve become more adventurous, trying new stitches and even rewriting patterns! One in particular had a scalloped edge to the scarf, and I rewrote the pattern so that halfway through, I reversed the design. That way, both ends had the same scalloped look. That was my first attempt to rewrite a pattern. My knitted shopping/beach/tote bag is another example. I rewrote the pattern to make it with circular needles as well as other changes in the stitches.

I don’t have a favourite thing to make or a particular fiber to use, but I do prefer repetitive patterns so that I can knit while watching tv. I am addicted to several tv shows, so if I knit, I can validate the time spent watching tv!
