I was asked by subu on Etsy to pass along the info about this, and since it sounds like such a neat idea, I am. If anyone is near Pittsburgh and would like to help with this, please check out the info here.
Inviting All Knitters, Crocheters and Weavers!
The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is launching a project for November that will theme public programming at the Museum around knitting, crocheting and weaving. To coordinate with the Mister Rogers’ Sweater Drive, which collects sweaters for needy families in our lobby, we will host a month-long series of knitting/crocheting/weaving workshops for children and create tree sweaters on the trees in front of the Museum. The tree sweaters will be a collaborative art installation by folks all over Pittsburgh.
Here’s how you or your needly network can get involved:
-Bring your colorful, handwoven sweater sections to be incorporated into the tree sweaters. Include playful pockets, buttons, ribbons, whatever you like! Don’t forget a weather-proof tag with the name of the individual or group who made it. Sections should be 4’-4’6” in length to fit the circumference of our trees.
More info can be found here.
EtsyFAST is proud to participate in a great cross-team challenge with JET (Jewelry on Etsy) and EtsyGreetings — the Wedding Design Challenge!
All three groups are getting together to make some awesome things for a lucky bride and groom, Autumn and John. Members from each team will design things based on Autumn and John’s preferences, and can design items for the wedding, engagment party or even the honeymoon.
To read more about this Challenge and keep up with the amazing goodies being created, please visit this forum.
Well, the trunk show is over and it looks like all the sellers attending had a good time (if not a good drink.) It doesn’t have to end for you though… visit all the FAST sellers on this page to view more fiber-y goodness. (This page will be updated in the near future to include all our wonderful sellers.)
No idea what this means? Check out the following sites:
This month we are starting a series of challenge themes related to the elements. This month’s element is “Earth.” For the month of October our members will be interpreting their vision of the “earth” theme through their given fiber arts media. To browse the challenge creations search for “EtsyFAST” and “OctoberChallenge” on Etsy.com.
Looking back on it, I have to admit, I am a crocheter. It’s not an embarrassing thing to admit. I just haven’t done it for a long time. Since I learned to crochet (again) 4 years ago, I have become a spinner, dyer, knitter and lover of all things fiber arts. (Trust me, my next ambitions are felting and weaving!)
Today, I had to chance to sign up for a new website called Crochet Me.
This site is really just getting started as an interactive community. Before that it was an online magazine founded by Kim Werker, editor of Interweave Crochet. Crochet Me is designed to bring together crocheters across the world. It features patterns submitted by members, tips and tricks for your crochet projects and a forum which offers a chance to connect with other members to get answers for your questions.
I have already signed up at the site to look around. For me the best part of the site is that I can favorite patterns that are listed on the site so that it is easy to find them again. This may not seem like much now, but as the site grows larger searching for patterns would most likely become difficult.
So for all my fellow crochet fiber artists, pop on over to Crochet Me. (My username is Froggy, same familiar avatar. Feel free to say “hi” while your there!)
So now that I have your interest, click on the link if you want to read more about the contest. (Also, that is where you can sign up…. I didn’t forget to mention that did I? =P)
Taking a stroll through the members’ list of Etsy Fiber Arts Street Team, you can learn a little bit about a lot of great shops. Here are some interesting facts I learned about some of the members
http://afghanartistry.etsy.com : All of my crochet items are done without patterns. I can usually make something just by seeing how it is put together.
http://kibblesnknits.etsy.com I’ve been sewing on-and-off for 20 years and knitting constantly for 10.
http://LazyTcrochet.com : Upcoming local shows include the Huntsburg Pumpkin Festival, October 6th and 7th – Yankee Lake Crafts in the Country, October 20th.
http://bethbrown.etsy.com : I am trained as a Chemical Engineer, but I adore fiber arts.
http://knittingguru.etsy.com : My Mom taught me to knit and crochet when I was 4 years old
http://northstaralpacas.etsy.com : We now have a herd of 10 alpacas and are hoping for four cria next spring.
Many people have heard about the tragedy that occurred in Minnesota(USA) not long ago.
There is also a link on that page for those wanting to contribute but are not in the area to participate in local events.
